Fourth ray triangle, Scorpio is the controlling sign
The following applies to all seven ray triangles:
The seven stars of the Great Bear are the originating sources of the seven rays in our solar system [which] express themselves through the medium of the seven planetary logoi [which in turn] manifest through the medium of the seven sacred planets. Each [ray] is transmitted into our solar system through [a triangle of] three constellations and their ruling planets (422-3)
This relation is the basis of the entire science of triangles and, therefore, of astrology itself; it is also related to the rays, the constellations, their ruling planets and our Earth in a great synthesis of energies; it relates our solar system to the larger whole and our tiny non-sacred planet to the solar system. (489)
These seven triangles of energy … pour their force through one of the constellations in each triangle (490)
This inter-relation is effective in this world cycle and will remain so until the end of the Aquarian Age.
See table (423, 489-90) and controlling signs (illustrated with connecting lines to signs) on the site map.
As the fourth ray triangle, this expresses the esoteric energy of Mercury.
Ray four is relatively inactive externally at present, but its advent is immanent, given by Bailey to be around 2025. However, it is potent in the inner life of developing souls, especially those who are working through conflicts which involve their emotional nature.
Like the fourth ray, Taurus is active esoterically, in a similar manner.
- Desire—incentive for human unfoldment (495).
- ‘The penetrating light of the path. …a beam of light, streaming forth from the [initial] point in Aries, and revealing the area of light control.’ (329)
- Aspiration—key to testing of disciples in preparation for initiation (490-1, 598).
- ‘The light of Day. …the place where three lights meet—the light of form, the light of soul and the light of life. They meet; they blend; they rise.’ (330)
- Direction—expression of the intuition. One- pointed effort (490,95).
- ‘A beam of directed, focussed Light. …the point of light becomes the beam, revealing a greater light ahead and illuminating the way to the centre of the light.’ (330)
Scorpio active esoterically: test of humanity as a disciple (598). Preparing disciples for initiation (491-2).
Ray VI—Harmony through Conflict from the will aspect
the fourth ray means the will to harmonise or relate (605) particularly as it works through the will to destroy limitation, not from the point of view of consciousness, but from the energy which produces:
the struggle between life and that which it has chosen as a limitation; this eventually shatters … that limitation the moment that a point of real harmony or at-one-ment has been reached. Esoterically it might be said that the moment that form (limitation) and life balance each other a rift immediately appears and through it flows a fresh outpouring of the will. […] The significance of this fresh inflow of the Will will now appear; the stage is set anew for a fresh and renewed activity of the living principle. As far as humanity is concerned the “seeds of death” emerge through the medium of this ray and … death is but an aspect of this will, conditioned by the fourth ray and emerging from the fourth [intuitional] plane. Death is an act of the intuition, transmitted by the soul to the personality and then acted upon in conformity to the divine will by the individual will. This is the Will to harmonisation.
Today, its highest expression … is the intuition, as it works out through group activity. Death always releases the individual into the group. (598-9)
The illumined will—the basis of buddhi or the intuition. (606)
Through Ray IV, we learn to be at-one with this eternal synthesis and will (634)
It is the conflict between polar forces which bars access to the will. When unity is discovered, the gate opens and the will aspect can pour through the balanced form.
