Source of the second ray
Sirius is one of the “big three”—Great Bear-Sirius-Pleiades which are the foundations of esoteric astrology. This greater Ray 2 source is stepped down in our solar system by the second ray Sun, into the seven rays of our solar system (as sub-rays of the Sun’s ray 2).

The outdated quasi-masonic phrase “great White Lodge” (also found in the White Eagle books) is another legacy term for the same thing—those who, having transcended purely personal goals, are actively involved in the development of humanity along the lines of general goodwill under Ray 2:
The energies coming from the sun, Sirius, are related to the love-wisdom aspect or to the attractive power of the solar Logos… This cosmic soul energy is related to the Hierarchy. …the great White Lodge on Sirius finds its reflection and a mode of spiritual service and outlet in the great White Lodge of our planet, the Hierarchy. . The expansions in consciousness that occur under this development are all part of the second great aspect of Love-Wisdom, related in Bailey’s theosophy to her term the Cosmic Christ
or Love-Wisdom principle in the solar system, the planet, in humanity and in all forms of life expression. Because Scorpio is:
the great constellation which influences the turning point both in the life of humanity and the life of the individual… For the first time in the history of both mankind and disciples, the energy of Sirius—pouring into the seven groups which form our planetary Hierarchy—evokes a response. For developing individuals, the influential energy
of Sirius moves along the following lines:
- …in a sevenfold manner through the seven rays and their seven groups as these constitute the active Hierarchy.
- The Fixed Cross—a fusion of four major energies, pouring into our solar system, on to our planet and through humanity.
- Scorpio—an aspect of the Fixed Cross, of peculiar and specialised potency upon the Path of Discipleship and preparing, with its tests and trials:
- The process of re-orientation, whereby [we mount] the Fixed Cross of conscious development and leave the Mutable Cross of passive learning.
- The journey through the first, second and third initiations, after which, its peculiar testing potency is no longer felt. (EA 199, edited)
In the tropical zodiac, Sirius is at 14° Cancer (this is around 2025; which translates to 20° in the 2nd ray sidereal constellation of Gemini), although—as with other larger cosmic influences—like Ray 2 it can pervade a chart through correspondence, rulerships, sign rays, etc.
